The Hilo Community Players are participating in the Paradise Yellow Pages phonebook fundraiser. HCP has participated for the last 2 years by delivering telephone books in the Hilo area. This fundraiser happens over a 2-3 week period in February. If you can help out by delivering books please contact Susie at susie@hilocommunityplayers.org.

The Tiki Awards, Hilo Community Players version of the Oscars, will be held on Saturday January 24, 2009 at Wailoa State Park, pavilion No. 3 from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Please join us for an exciting event to honor the stars of 2008. This is a potluck event so please bring something to share. The Hilo Community Players are proud to announce their spring production is Cabaret! Show dates are March 20- 22, 27-29 and April 3 & 4 2009. Cabaret will be directed by Roberta Brashear-Kaulfers.

Auditions are Wednesday December 17 2008 at the Pu’ueo Community Center from 6:30pm -9:00pm. Please be prepared to sign a song from the show (or another of your choice) and wear comfortable clothing for dancing in.

Major roles are the MC, Sally Bowles, Cliff, Fraulein Schneider and Heir Schultz, Ernst, and the Kit Kat Club (boys and girls). Also needed are the Kit Kat Band, production management, stagehands and lighting crew.

Callbacks will be announced following auditions.

This years upcoming Shakespeare in the Park is The Taming of the Shrew, directed by Randy Raphael. Keep a watch here for news and information about the show. Auditions for the show will be in April. Keep your eyes on the website, we’ll announce the dates as soon as they are finalized.

Sunday November 22 from 1pm to 5pm the Hilo Community Players are having their annual membership meeting and picnic. If your not a member but would like to come and learn more about our plans for the year you are welcome to come along! If you like to become a member we can sign you up there! Also we will be having our board elections. We are constantly seeking new talents and ideas so if you’d like to donate a couple of hours of your time a month to our board of directors please contact Susie Yong at susie@hilocommunityplayers.org.

We are holding our picnic at Leleiwi Beach Park at Pavilion No. 5. The picnic is potluck so please bring something share.

Show tickets are available at outlets until the day of the show. Ticket prices are $10 for HCP members, students and seniors (valid ID required) and $12 general advance sales. At the door ticket prices will be $12 for HCP members, students and seniors and $14 general.

Shows are are October 16, and 17 at the Hilo Women’s Club, Saturday October 18 at Kiluea Military Camp Theater, October 23 and 24 at the Hilo Women’s Club and Saturday October 25 in Pahoa at the Akebono Theatre. October 30 at Waimea at the Parker School Theatre. All show times are at 7:30 pm. A special midnight will be at the Naniloa Crown Room on October 31st.

Members for our Board of Directors

Qualifications are minimal. We’re looking for people who are enthusiastic about the mission of Hilo Community Players. Board members should be members of HCP. They are expected to attend just one meeting a month – usually a Monday evening – and to occasionally help out with HCP productions.

You’ll help support a worthy cause, and it won’t cost you a nickel.
